rent payments
My rent is due on or before the 5th of each month. On November 5, 2006, Sunday, the apartment business office is closed. I presented the manager with payment in full on Monday November 6, 2006 within minutes after they opened and was informed I owed a late charge amounting to $30. I have heard they can not legally charge me a late fee if the payment is made the day after they are closed if the due date falls on that day. Please advise. Thank you

That option does not apply in this matter. They are under no obligation to be available to you on the 5th, but you have an obligation to get the money to them by the 5th. Plan ahead, your rent is really due on the 1st and you could have gotten them the rent any time prior to the 5th to avoid the penalty.
