how do i get out of a rental agreement....legally?

All contracts should be complete documents, unless they incorporate other docs by reference etc. Sit down and look for provisions regarding breaking.terminating the lease. It should provide for the cost associated in doing so (ie reletting fees etc). Alternatively, sit down with the other party, explain your situation, the hardship you are facing (if any) and ask could you get out of the agreement without penalty. Many times when people contemplate this the last person they talk with is the other party. It never hurts to ask.
