reponsibility and rights of mortgage
I was a co-buyer on a house. I lived there maybe 2 years with the primary buyer. I moved out and bought my own house almost three years ago. During the two years I lived at the house in question an agreement was made that I would pay for utilities and home improvements. When I moved out an agreement was also made that she would pay for the house and I had no responsibilites for the house. Now almost three years later the primary is saying that I am responsible for half of the mortgage and that they are getting a lawyer. I do not have the agreement in writing. Is there anything can I do to protect myself from this action.

If you are a co-borrower of the hosue, then you have a contract with the financial institution and you still have an obligation to them. (The financial institution doesn't care about your agreement with the ex, as they were not a party to it.) If you are listed as a co-owner of the house (you are on the title and on the loan) then you also have an ownership interest in the house. There are remedies for people in your situation, such as a forced sale. I'd suggest your getting your own lawyer to discuss options.
