Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

I was staying at the Hyatt place near IAH airport on 10/04/09. THey checked me in around 11am and knew I was staying using points. Everything was fine til bout 11pm that night when I get a knock on the door and the staff inform me I hadn't paid for the room and needed to pack up and leave. I told them there was no way i could do that. So I left some belongings behind, telling them I would be back soon. Since I wasnt able to stay since they couldnt find my reservation. I came back the following day and asked for my belongings. The girl from the previous night was there and said I needed to wait about an hour for the houselkeeper to get the items. I told her I had to get back to work and would send a friend to pick the stuff up. Fast forward 4 days later after having gold passport call for me and confirm my friend could pick my stuff up since im in california currently. They have discarded my belongings.(which they did the first night i was at the hotel.) The good thing is I have all the phone conversations, They tried to tell me the police had instructed them to destroy my property. I spoke to the police and they laughed and said they would never do that. I had most of my vauable belongings that I had planned on taking to California the following day. Ive never experienced anything like this and not sure what I can should do next. Please help!

I would start with trying to negotiate a fair compensation for the belongings that they destroyed. You may have to file a lawsuit to get what you want.
