Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

I am being sued for back property taxes before I bought a property! At closing I obtained clear title. Due to an error, the county later discovered that the taxes had not been paid for 2003-2004. This occured 3 years before I boiught the prooperty. Am I responsible for these back taxes (plus interest)? I have paid all the taxes for the years which I owned the property. The county has not even tried to collect the taxes from the company that owned the property during those two years.

The taxes "follow the property." This means that if they are not paid, the government will place a lien on the property (if they haven't already.)

If you purchased title insurance, now is the time to make a claim. You may be able to sue the seller, if they gave you a general warranty deed. I would have to review the docs to be sure, though.
