Trust-Mineral Rights

I am a beneficiary of a trust, the executor is entitled to the interest accrued from the principal. We have recently acquired royalties from mineral rights. Are royalties received from mineral rights considered to be interest or are they part of the principal.

Normally, royalties are considered to be principal.
