Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Are verbal contracts enforceable in Texas when I agreed to purchase a home from my father? Now he wants to sell the home and I want my equity out of what I've paid into it. We entered into a verbal agreement to purchase the home and have paid every month as agreed, updated the home, etc. Now we are getting a divorce and the home has to be sold.
