Legal Question in Social Security Law in Texas
Stroke Victim
My father in law just had a stroke this past monday and is without a job. He was to start work this weekend and has no insurance. Is there any way he can collect a short term disability until he has recovered and go back into the workforce?

He's probably out of luck. He hasn't really started his job yet,--how can he expect disability.
Still, the man had a stroke,--it's worth trying. All they can say is no.

You can apply for SS benefits. The rule is - if you have been disabled for a year or expect to be. I don't know whether he can recover from his condition or not in a year.
