Legal Question in Tax Law in Texas

incorrect information on tax return

the accountant did not include vital information pertaining to our corporation. In not making sure he had all information from other copporate partners my personal return was inaccurate. This caused the company I owned to have to halt work and subsequently I was suied. Ihave two years of lose work , debts, lawsuites, and have ruined my credit.

How liable is the accountant for accuracy on the tax return? His information he put on my return was incorrect. it was not info that I supplied him. Can he be suied?

Re: incorrect information on tax return

Potentially, you would have a claim for accounting malpractice. I urge you to contact a Texas lawyer RIGHT AWAY, since your claim has to be filed before the "statute of limitations" runs out, and your message indicates that this situation occurred a couple of years ago. I don't know what the Texas limitation period is, but two years is fairly typical for this kind of claim. I can give you an initial referral if you need one.

Best wishes,
