Be careful - there are a lot of fraudulent tax relief companies out there! If they promise you that they can settle your tax debt for pennies on the dollar, or make other big promises without knowing all the specifics of your situation, that would be a huge red flag - steer clear. Another warning sign is when they ask for all, or most, of their fee up front.
Find out all you can about them - what is the person's name? What credentials do they have? Find out whether they are a member of the Better Business Bureau or similar organization, and whether there have been any claims filed against them.
You may be better off hiring a local attorney or tax preparer to deal with the IRS on your behalf.
