Is there a time limit on how far back IRS can go on an tax payer?

If you have not filed a tax return for the year in question, there is no statute of limitations. If you have filed a tax return, there is a 3 year limitation on audits/assessments and a 10 year limitation on collections. You should talk this over with your tax attorney.
