Legal Question in Traffic Law in Texas

Certain distance

I passed a cop and alledgedly ''did not signal soon enough at an intersection.'' However he did not immediately flip on his lights. By the time he signaled for me to pull over I was nowhere near the the intersection. Is there a certain distance or amount of time an officer has to pull you over before he can no longer stop you.

Thanks for the good question. An officer is not bound by any defined period of time or distance to make a traffic stop once a violation is observed. It could be that he was busy doing some investigation on your car's description and tag information before he pulled you over. It could also be that you just didn't "look right" to him and he was waiting for a better reason to stop you. Pretext stops are legal as long as some violation occurred. Good luck.
