Failure to yield

I am an Oklahoma resident and was traveling from Gainesville, Tx to come back to Oklahoma. I was unfamiliar with the area and missed my exit so I had to turn around on the service road to get back to my exit. As I was on service road, I approached a ''yield'' sign to off coming traffic from the highway; I see the vehicles exiting but realize I have enough clearance to proceed through; I quickly tap on my breaks and then proceeded through the yield sign. No accident was caused. The officer gave me a ticket for failure to yield! Is this a legit ticket? On top of that, he gives me 2 weeks to appear in court or pay the ticket by or before the court date. Are they legally supposed to give me 30 days to pa y for it? i live in Oklahoma city and very inconvenience to make the court date. What can I do?

Ten days to two weeks is standard in Texas. You can hire a lawyer to fight the ticket. Or contact the court and make arrangements (well before the court date) to get deferred adjudication or defensive driving. If you are unable to do so, an attorney can do this for you at a very reasonable fee.
