Legal Question in Traffic Law in Texas
Parking Scam or Law
While visiting San Antonio, I parked my rental car in an area that I did not see any signs indicating private property. Coming back to my car, I found NO citation on my vehicle. about 3 months later, I receive a letter from a collection agency stating that I owe them $49.00 for parking on private property while in San Antonio. I checked and there was no city issued citation for me, this is a private lot.
Am I obligated to pay this or is this a scam for rental cars against visitors to the city.

Re: Parking Scam or Law
I need more information before I can answer this question although it does seem a little strange to me. My best advice is to send a certified letter to the collection agency within 30 days of receipt of the letter and dispute the debt. Make sure that they give you all the needed information: why the debt is owed, to whom it is owed, how much is owed, why they feel that they are legally entitled to that amount, etc. If they send the bill to a credit reporting agency then contact the credit reporting agency and let them know that you dispute the debt.
