Legal Question in Traffic Law in Texas

Speeding ticket information incorrect, please help

I'm a college student at Texas A&M and was pulled over the other night heading back to college. I was pulled over outside of a little town by a local police officer who wrote me a ticket for going 70 in a 55, however, I was in a 60 mph zone and can prove it. Is this enough to get the ticket waived? As I said, I'm a college student and I really can not afford to shell out $250. I am a Pre Law student, so if I can fight this on my own, I would welcome the opportunity. Any advice would be helpful.

Aggie Class of 1977!

Bad news, my friend. 70 in a 60 is speeding just as is 70 in a 55. Don't pay the ticket though. Ask for a court date. The prosecutor will usually negotiate the amount. Usually for approximately $160 in court costs, you can get deferred disposition, which will result in a dismissal. Also the court will almost always give you from 30 to 90 days to pay it.

Check the website of the muni court or JP office, usually the forms and procedures are listed online.

Feel free to email me directly if you have any questions.
