Legal Question in Traffic Law in Texas

speeding ticket

i recieved a speeding ticket on december 17th of 2002 in texas. i was moving when i got the ticket from az to in. i could not show to court and did not have the money to pay the ticket. i called the traffic div. in tx to let them know that and they told me i would have to pay the ticket in full or show up to the court date. almost 4 yrs later i recieved a letter from a law office in texas stating that i would need to pay the ticket and the 262 dollar charge for not appearing in court or they would issue a warrant for my arrest. is this possible, is there any actions i can take to atleast fight the amount over the price of the ticket?

Re: speeding ticket

You're probably stuck with the amount. When you failed to appear, the Court entered the Order. Now, in order to get that fine reduced or removed, you'd need to hire a lawyer who would go back in and file a motion for all of that. By the time you pay a lawyer, you'll have probable spent more than the fine.

Best solution: pay the ticket. BUT a caveat: DO NOT just sent some money to the Clerk. You need to call, find out exactly what amount to send, where to send it, and then purchase a money order, make sure the cause number is on that money order, make a copy of the money order, write a letter that has all the pertinent info on it, such as the ticket number and/or the case or cause number, your name, address, and if possible, a copy of the orig. ticket, plus a copy of any letters/info you got from them.

Send that letter and money order certified mail.

Good luck
