Legal Question in Traffic Law in Texas

Speeding ticket help

I got a speeding ticket and I am sure it is unjustified. To fight it with a jury trial will cost me about 750 dollars. I would like to know about what happens after I mail in my ticket with a not guilty responce. Can on my day in court w/o a lawyer ask the judge for deferred adjudication? I don't want this on my record as it was unwarranted, but it costs too much to hire a lawyer for this matter. Also, do I have other options that I am not aware of. Thanks for your help.

Re: Speeding ticket help

Call or visit the court clerk. Or see if the muni/jp court has a website. They will usually advise you of the court's policies. Normally, on the first court date, you can plead no contest and take deferred. There will be a fine and court costs. They will usually give you 30 days to pay. If you are sure you won't get any more citations during the deferred period, then I think deferred is your best option (assuming you are less than 25 miles under the speed limit). You may prefer defensive driving.
