Legal Question in Traffic Law in Texas

Tapped Someone From Behind Going 2 mph

My son was in the school parking lot going out the gate to come home and the car in front of him stopped as he looked to the left and barely hit the backend of the car in front of him. We were called by parents and assessed the damage. It looked very minor to us. It shifted the back bumper approximately 1/8'' and put a scratch on the bumper where the license plate hit her. The estimates for damages are from $935-$1200. I about blew a gasket. The damage seems so small as far as looking at it. We were not going to file it on our insurance as our son has only had his license for a year and can't stand a premium increase. There was no report on the fender bender. Please advise me in this situation.

Stay calm and try to negotiate that you will pay the damage -- but ask for two more estimates. Try to negotiate to pay the middle of the estimates. Ask for a payment plan if you need it. Get the agreement and release in writing.
