If a beneficiary of a will dies before the person having the will, what happens to the beneficiary's portion when the person with the will dies?

It depends on how the will is drafted. It could be that the bequest lapses or it could be that the descendents of the beneficiary receive the bequest. I would suggest that you take the will to a probate attorney for his or her review. I have seen many wills where the language is not clear.
