Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Beneficiary of a will

How long does it generally take for a beneficiary to receive monies from a will? We received a document several months ago after a deceased member of the family died. Her wishes in her will were spelled out and clear as to whom receives what. As of yet, we have not received anything from this and it has been about five months or so.

Re: Beneficiary of a will

There is no set time period for when a beneficiary will receive property from a will. Much of this depends on the size and complexity of the estate, the number of beneficiaries, the amount of debt etc. Unfortunately, even if the documents are very clear as to who gets what, their may be debts and expenses to pay or other documents that need to be filed prior to the executor distributing the estate. I will say five months does not sound like an extremely long time for distribution. I know it does for the person waiting for property, but as far as a typical estate administration I wouldn't be surprised if you had another couple of months. I would urge you to be patient (though I know it's difficult) with the court, attorney and executor. Especially the executor as it often someone who has not had to do this before and really is kind of a thankless job. Hope that helps. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
