Closing checking account

My mother passed away in March. My question is how do I close her checking account when there is another person on that account. I cannot locate this person I do not know where they are. I am the one who has taken care of all her other business, she had no will or anything. I am listed on her death certificate if that helps any.

See if the bank will accept an affidavit of heirship to allow you to close the account. If not, you'll need to go to probate for your mother's estate.

If the checking account is small, the action in probate may dissipate the estate.
