Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Creating seperate properties

I have some money that was awarded to me in a judgment. I opened a brokerage account in both my name and my husband's name. I have proof that it was awarded to me. I would now like to withdraw the money that is mine and place it into my own account as separate property. How do I go about this?

Re: Creating seperate properties

The money awarded to you should remain your separate property. Any increase is community property. Since the brokerage account is in both names, either can draw out your separate money and place it in a separate account.
