should I have an attorney represent me in an multiple descendat claim that is being handled by only one attorney

It is always best to have your own attorney. However is is not always economical. I suppose the answer to your question depends on the size of the estate,the complexicty of the claim and the chance that your interests will conflict with the other descendants.
