my mother passed away and i her son was left as the beneficiary of her life insurance policy and a survival benefit policy ... we got called by a credit card company discover that she owes 4,000 and they are going to search the estate and take their money can they take the life insurance left to me and the survivor benefit and also she has money in a account that was payed on death to myself i hope you can help

In most cases, the life insurance money is not subject to creditors. I would need to review the beneficiary designations to be sure. You may be able to negotiate the discover card down. You may wish to retain counsel.
