Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

My father passed away and his name is on the title for several vechicles. He was not in posession of the vechiles, but had sold them to other people. Will his heirs (myself and sister) be legally responsbile if the cars are involved in an accident while the title is still in his name?
