Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Financial and Medical POA

I am helping both my mother and grandmother with estate planning as they are both recent widows. The investment part is easy for me but the legal planning is what I am not 100% about. I have told them both that they need to sign a durable POA and healthcare proxies (they both have wills.) I have seen boilerplate letters from reputable organizations but is this the way to go? Should and attorney draw them up or is it okay to use the boilerplate agreements for these forms as it they are not complex estates?

Re: Financial and Medical POA

Both durable power of attorney and medical power of attorney are very powerful instruments. While the boilerplate may be OK, it shouldn't cost that much to make sure they're done right by an attorney. Remember, they aren't really called for until the maker is incapacitated, and that's too late to correct errors.
