Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

My friend has a valid will (completed by a lawyer) He passed away and left his assets to myself and my siblings equally. Do I need to pay a lawyer to record the will to distribute the accounts, or can I do it myself at the courthouse?

It depends on the county's local rules. In Dallas, for example, it's considered the practice of law to apply for letters, so no, you couldn't do it yourself here (I don't know about El Paso). If you and your siblings get along, then the probate process in Texas is usually straightforward and not expensive.
