Gramdmothers wishes were omitted from will

My husband's grandmother recendly passed. They were very close and had more of a mother/son relationship. He was the one who fixed everything in the house, mowed the yard, picked up her medicine and took her to the doctor for the past ten years. She verbally promised him a few items in her house that hold sentimental value for him. She also told her nephew, who wrote the will for her and is the executor. Several people(his mom, dad, uncle, cousin and myself) are aware of the three things that the wanted him to have but the will was recently read and he is not mentioned at all. He confronted the person who was supposed to put it in the will. He said that he thought my husband took those things before his grandmother passed away. Now, he says that there is nothing he can do. My husband's parents want to sell everything. He doesn't want any money, just the three things that remind him of his grandmother that she wanted him to have. What can we do?
