Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas
My grandmothers past yesterday morning but about 3 months ago we all sat down and talk about her will. All of her children are deceased and its only 2 grandchildren Me and my sister and 2 unofficial adopted nieces. They have already did funeral arrangements without us and decided that they are keeping the house. My grandmother told us she left the house to my cousin that she "unofficially" adopted but that if she didn't stay there she had to sale it and split it with me and my sister but she wants to give it to her mother. she also wants to keep my grandmothers car and my brothers car who is deceased and living with my grandmother at the time of his death but my Mother wants the car back. What do we do they set the funeral for Wednesday.
1 Answer from Attorneys
I recommend that you contact a probate attorney immediately. You have a complicated case. The "unofficial" relatives have a problem - they probably won't inherit anything.
It sounds like there is no will so the Judge will distribute the estate based on the laws of the State of Texas.
I would be in an attorney's office immediately. The attorney can explain the laws of Texas to you regarding inheritance. The laws of the State of Texas are complex and can be confusing. You will need to hire an attorney to help you - especially because real estate is involved.
You can use this website or www.avvo.com to find a good attorney. Please do not call me because I don't do this type of law. I only mediate lawsuits these days - I no longer litigate.
