Guardianship for Daughter with Down Syndrome
My daughter has down syndrome and she will be 18yrs on 12-08. I was informed that my wife and I need to set up a guardianship for her soon. I don't know what all is involved but if you could shed some light, I would appreciate it. Is there forms I can fill out myself without an attorney?

Mr. Leon is correct that it is a fairly complicated procedure and one that needs to be started very soon. Unless there is a guardianship in place, once your daughter turns 18 you no longer have right to make legal or medical decisions for her. If you would like to call my office and set an appointment, I'll be happy to speak with you and your wife.

THis is a fairly complicated and ongoing procedure. I would not recommend your doing this by yourself. You should contact either your local bar association or a probate lawyer in your area to set this up.
