Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas
My husband died in July without a will. I have a question about Texas laws regarding that. I've been told two different things. At one time I was told that because we didn't have any children that my in-laws would own half of the house, nothing was mentioned about personal property. In fact, I was even told that my husband's money was mine and I could use it as I wanted. Now I'm being told that half of everything that my husband owned is half owned by my in-laws, i.e. down to the dishes in the cupboard. Is this true, or do relatives only inherit lands not personal property? Thank you.

Maybe your inlaws are giving you this advice. :) If your late husband has no children outside the marriage, you should be entitled to all. Please call an attorney to prove up heirship for you in the probate court and that should settle everything for you. My condolences for your loss
