Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Inheritance

My father passed away. I did not carry his name but his family new he was my father. He was old and very sick. He told his wife and other family member I was his child and he wanted them to do the correct thing about me. The family did not put my name on his obituary. Am I entitled to any of his estate? Would I be consider one of his hires? What would I have to do to collect my inheritance if his wife pass away?

Re: Inheritance

There are a couple of questions I would need to ask you. Did he have a will? Do you have any way to prove that he was your father? How long was he married? How many children did he have?

In AR, if a person passes away with out a will, his estate passes first to his spouse and descendants, if he has any.

There is a chance you may be entitled to some of his property but I would need to ask you some more questions.

Re: Inheritance

If your father passed away in Texas, and paternity is established, you should have an inheritance. However, depending on the property in the estate, it may only be distributed to the children-heirs after his spouse has passed away. Please call an attorney in the state of your father's residence.
