Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Inheritance in the State of Texas

I reside in the State of Texas which is a community property state. My question is if my wife receives an inheritance from her parents does 50% of it belong to me? Her parents say a directed inheritance to my wife is hers and hers alone and is not mine in any way. I thought that with Texas being a community property state that anything my wife earned or was given her during our marriage, whether it was inherited or not, 50% of it was owned by me.

Re: Inheritance in the State of Texas

The property that your wife receives as an inheritance will be her separate property.

Essentially anything received by gift or by descent is separate property
