Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

I inherited my fathers house but my stepmothers can live there until she dies. What am I responsible for as far as the house? I have heard that I have to pay for taxs and upkeep on the house. Does that mean I have to fix air conditioner, sewer? Can anything be done to me if I don't fix everything that needs fixing?

You've heard wrong. Since your stepmother has a life estate in the property, she is responsible for property taxes and maintenance.

Case law says the only thing you are responsible for until she dies is property insurance. If there is a loan, you are responsible for principal and she is responsible for interest. If she doesn't pay for the taxes, you may want to be sure you don't lose the house to tax foreclosure.
