Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

next of kin

my family member has died, but he never left a next of kin, nor a will. his attorney has contacted me, his only surviving relative, and asked it if i would like be his next of kin so all his property would not be taken. I would like to know if it will be legal to make me his next of kin and how would it work ''if'' it is legal.

You are either next of kin or not. If the attorney is from Nigeria, and the estate is huge, it's a scam!

Particularly if it's a wealthy relative you've never heard of.
