Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Is a lawyer required?

My fiancee and daughter's father passed away recently and I want to handle the probate procedures or affidavit of heirship myself. I went to the courthouse and was told I couldn't, and that I was required to have a lawyer. Is this true?

There is not enough information here for me to answer you. I can tell you that the probate process is something best left to a professional. You cannot represent someone without a license. Additionally, I have a few questions. What is your objective? What are you trying to accomplish? Is there estate property? A will? Estate debts? Is the daughter a minor?
