Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

life estate

My late husband left me a life estate in his inherited home. We were married ten years and did alot of remodeling and added on to the home with joint funds. Is there any possibility that I would have a vested interest in this life estate. If so, what do I need to do to protect my interest?

Re: life estate

It depends on how the life estate is created. There is a life estate through a will and there is a "legal" life estate in homestead rights. You should take all your paperwork to a local lawyer familiar with real estate and probate work.
