Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Life Insurance Policy-Beneficiary

I was made beneficiary of a life insurance policy by a long time friend. When he passed away recently, his estranged daughter (step) came and took his possessions including the policy. Is there a legal avenue which I can use to make her hand over the policy?

Re: Life Insurance Policy-Beneficiary

Do you know who which company issued the policy? Do you know if the beneficiary card was ever turned in? was there a will?

As for what to do, get a lawyer to send a notice letter ot the insurance company to prevent them from disbursing funds before you can sort this out. Then, if there is a will, file an action in probate court (in case you're mentioned in the will) to make sure nothing else happens. I would also file an action against the daughter for stealing the policy. You have a real mess on your hands, and not much time to do anything about it.
