Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Live in friend taking over

My elderly mother has an elderly man living in her home, rent and contract free. She let him move a few years ago when he had no job, no home. He helps keep up the house and yard and they keep each other company. There is a will naming the heirs and he is not one of them. Is there any way this man could have a legal claim to the house when Mother is gone? He occassionally buys things around the house though minimal. Mother is analcoholic on antidepressants so vulnerable yet uncooperative about changing the arrangement.

Re: Live in friend taking over

He could claim to be a common-law husband and, being so, he would be entitled to a life estate in the house.
