How are assets in living trusts distributed to trustees upon the death of the trust owner?

Well, this will sound silly, but, the assets shall be distributed in whatever manner that the trust instrument instructs. It may be in trust, outright, to multiple beneficiaries, to one beneficiary, etc.
This is assuming that the death of the trust owner triggers distribution.
In short, a review of the trust document is the best way to tell. Try to obtain a copy or see a lawyer and maybe he or she can obtain a copy. Good luck!
