Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas
Medical Power of Attorney
My sister had a diabetic seizure Monday evening. she was found Tuesday morning and has been sedated to get her glucose level back to normal. I am her brother and I need to sign some papers to get her short term disability started (I guess) but she doesn't have a will, power of attorney, etc. for any of this. I am her closest relative (parents are deceased). What do I have to do to get her disabilty started and whatever else needs to be signed (bills, ret for her apartment, car payment, etc.)? Thank you for your help in advance.

Re: Medical Power of Attorney
I hope that she is going to recover from her condition. Almost all of these things can wait until you can get her signature on a medical power of attorney and related documents. Otherwise, you would have to request a guardianship which would have to filed and heard in County Court. On a matter of this importance, I hope you are working with an attorney. Otherwise, your documents could be ineffective and you will find yourself in this helpless situation the next time she has a seizure.
