Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

My mom just passed away on recently. There is no estate. She left a will leaving all to her children (including my step-brother) share and share alike. The funeral expense was $14,000.00. She has a little life ins. policy for $5000.00. My step brother refused to sign so me, my sister, and my brother had to come up with the cash to pay for funeral. My step brother did not come to the funeral. He lives in another state. He is very money hungry but there is no money. We just want to pay for funeral and pay my moms bills I am named as the executor. What steps do I need to take? This is the first time I have ever dealt with a will or this kind of behavior. My step dad is deceased.

In most cases, the life insurance has nothing to do with the estate. You do not have to use life insurance funds to pay for estate debts. I'm not sure what your step brother is refusing to sign.
