Mother died without a will

my mom died without a will . I am her only child and she was a single widower. What do I ned to do to collect her esate

Depends upon what's in her "estate". If she has oil wells and valuable paintings and perhaps a small home in Highland Park plus bank accounts, investment accounts then you will have to file an application to probate an estate without a will. If all she had was a little house and a used car with personal things, then there are other shorter, less expensive things you can do. That's why it's good to talk to a lawyer or more than one, to see what you need and how much it is going to cost. Good Luck.

It is possible you may only need an affidavit of heirship. If it is not acceptable to those with the assets, then you will need to contact an attorney to commence heirship proceedings. Sorry for your loss.
