Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Muniment of title

A friend recently lost his mother. He has a will - that she did at home and had notarized - that names him as the sole heir. The only thing left is the house itself - no money, jewels or anything else. Is it possible for him to file a muniment of title himself without having to pay astronomical amounts to an attny? If so, any ideas where we can get samples of the forms to get started?

Re: Muniment of title

Filing a muniment is almost as complicated as a probate and involves a hearing. Probate in Texas is simple and inexpensive compared to other states. For a simple, uncontested probate, I typically charge $1,500 plus filing fee (around $200 depending on the county). For forms and procedures check your local law library and Vernon's Statutes. Keep in mind that research involved and following the appropriated procedures my still pose a problem for your friend.
