power of attorney
my friend is in jail and needs a power of attorney to release his bank card to me. can it be handwritten and how would we word it

You'll find the form in the Texas statutes. It can be handwritten, but requires a notary. http://tlo2.tlc.state.tx.us/statutes/statutes.html Go to this link and the form can be found there.

Don't handwrite it. I can't see anyone honoring a handwritten one. You can pick one up from a law office for a few dollars. I would check with your friend's criminal attorney, as many of them will handle getting POAs for a small fee.
