Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Probate

I was contacted by an attorney who has represented my Mother's family for years. He stated my Grandmother's will is being ''probated'', & that my siblings and I will be receiving some papers in the mail to sign. My Uncle (still living) & my Mother (deceased for 4 yrs) were the only surviving children of my Grandmother (deceased for 7 yrs). What exactly does ''probate'' mean & should I sign these papers? How does this affect me? Do I need a lawyer too?

Re: Probate

Probate is the formal settling of an estate through the court system and simply put is used to distribute assets and transfer deeds. You may want to have your own attorney review things before you sign anything.
