Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

probate

My mother died and left a simple will.I am the only beneficiary and the executor.The estate is only $4000.00 in a checking account The bank says I need a letter of testamentary.Do I relly need this and do I have to go through probate to get it?

You don't "really need" letters testamentary. That takes longer and usually costs more money. There are simpler, more economical methods, but you do have to go through probate court to get the money. Better find a lawyer who can do this for you.
