probated will

if my father had credit card debts. and i was appointed executor of estate, does this make me responsible for his outstanding debts if there is not enough to pay after the assets are added up?

No. The only way you could be responsible as executor is if you made a distribution according to the will without first paying the debts of the estate.

An executor of an estate may not be held personally liable for the debts of the estate by sole virtue of managing being executor.
