Do I have to sign a partial receipt and release

Do I have to sign a partial receipt and release before the attorney send me my distribution check?

I received a letter from attorney saying once I receive the signed receipt, for the check they are holding thay they will forward me my check. probate

If this is a Washington attorney and a Washington case, then yes it is customary that you sign a release acknowledging that you received your share or distribution.

Generally the release is from the person or entity that owes the money to you. Sometimes that is an insurance company.

To me it is redundant; if there all ready is a settlement agreement or a court order its not like you can go litigate the matter again, it's over.

The one caveat is that if your attorney is asking you to sign something that says you are releasing any claims you have against the attorney then take the release to another attorney for review. That's a huge red flag.
