Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Stepmother vs. children

My stepmother has put my father in a retirement home. He has dementia and she was told not to leave him alone. Prior to that, she was neglectful and left him alone many hours daily and sometimes on weekends alone. He responds to her by recoiling and lowering his head as if he has been abused by her. What rights do we have as his children to protect him against her?

It would be helpful to know whether your father gave anyone power of attorney before he was diagnosed with dementia.

Without knowing that, in order for you to get the power to take care of your father, you will need to file for guardianship of him.
